ABOUT INSPIRED K9 TRAINER
Hi Everyone, my name is Janine Shlasinger and I am the owner and head trainer at Inspired K9 LLC. I started training dogs because I wanted to help dog owners have loving, long lasting, healthy and balanced relationships with their dogs.
Years ago I adopted Molly, a 7 month old black lab mix, and although she was very sweet to us, she had some serious issues. She pulled on the leash to the point that my hands hurt from walking her. She ate the furniture and even pulled some of the siding off of our house to try to reach a chipmunk. In addition she did not get along with dogs she didn't know and would lunge at them while I was walking her. I took her for training at one of the big box pet supply stores and when that didn't work, for private training. She learned basic commands but still didn't behave well, especially when I didn't have a treat in my hand. I was desperate for my sweet black lab mix to behave. This led me to research dog psychology and behavior and I found it fascinating and wanted to learn more.
As a former Special Education teacher I already had a background in Behavior Modification but wanted to learn how to apply this knowledge to dog behavior and training. I went for formal dog training in NY with K9-1 and then got the opportunity of a lifetime to train with Cesar Millan and his team at the Dog Psychology Center in Santa Clarita, California. This was a life changing experience and made me want to deepen my knowledge of dog psychology and training.
Since then, I have studied with top trainers Heather Beck, Cheri Lucas and Brian Agnew, Sean O'Shea and Jeff Gellman. I am E-collar certified by the International School for Dog Trainers by Martin Deely. I am constantly working and striving to learn more and to become a better trainer and person. I attend workshops and conferences on a regular basis to deepen my knowledge in dog psychology and training.
My goal is to help make families and their dogs lives less stressful by bringing balance and harmony to their relationship. Whether you have a dog with major behavior problems or a new puppy just starting out I would love to help.
I look forward to hearing from you!
PS: I almost forgot...Molly is now 14 years old and doing great! Our pack now consists of 7 dogs and although I am the pack leader my dogs are definitely family and I can't imagine my life without them!
